Last week’s episode drove a major wedge between Klaus and Rebekah, and Elijah was forced to figure out a way to salvage his relationships with both of them. He may have put Klaus momentarily out of commission, but he also stayed with his brother and sent his treacherous sister off to safety. It’s hard to pick a side on this family squabble due to the monstrous betrayal that Klaus had absolutely nothing to do with.
Klaus may be over 1000 years old, but he’s still harboring some serious daddy issues. And thanks to Rebekah’s treachery, those old wounds have been ripped right open along with that “mystical torture device” Elijah shoved into his chest.
Le Grand Guignol began in the year 1919, at a time when Klaus and Elijah were celebrating their family’s success in New Orleans. In fact, things were going so well for the Mikaelsons that Klaus finally allowed his sister a bit of happiness by telling her she and Marcel could be together “May they find joy in each other,” he proclaimed to the crowd. It’s a shame Rebekah and Marcel got what they wanted just hours before Mikael came to town to ruin everything. Who ever thought Klaus would show his baby sister this kind of compassion? If only he could do the same in the present day.
Indeed, present day Klaus is very much still angry at his baby sis he’s not too happy with Elijah for daggering him, either for ripping his heart out. In an effort to help ease his anger and discomfort, Elijah enlists Cami’s help.
Speaking of Rebekah and Marcel, they have their own plan of attack. Instead of running far, far away, they decide to turn back to rescue Davina. There was only one way out for Rebekah and Marcel. If they can find a way to resurrect Davina, she can perform a cloaking spell so they could hide from Klaus forever.
First, they have to kill the elder witches, including Sabine/Celeste, which proves to be more difficult than expected, especially with Celeste running circles around them. Luckily, Elijah is always one step ahead. He makes a deal with Monique, asking her to break Celeste’s body-jumping spell. So when Sabine “killed” herself in the cemetery and decided to inhabit a new body, Monique brought back the real Celeste. Then, without any hesitation, Elijah killed the real Celeste. But at least she was able to give Hayley an elixir to reverse the spell she placed on the Crescent clan. Will Hayley decide to stay with her pack, or will she go back to the Originals? Obviously, we’re hoping she choses Elijah but seeing as Hayley has always wanted a pack to call home, we’re not so sure.
Celeste’s death, of course, brought back Davina. We’re so excited to have Davina back. She was becoming one of the more compelling characters when she was “killed” off, so it will be interesting to see what the Powers That Be do with Davina now that she’s back.
Unfortunately, due to a boundary spell, the Originals could enter the cemetery, but they couldn’t get out until the next moonrise. This is not good news for Rebekah, who is now trapped in the cemetery with Klaus. Oh, and just to make matters even more deadly, Klaus has his own white oak stake — and this one can’t be destroyed. In the end, all three Originals are standing in the cemetery ready for battle. And it’s heartbreaking to see how Klaus’ actions mirror that of his fathers’. Back in 1919, Mikael was the one pursuing them with the white oak. He was the one who had set the opera on fire, nearly killing Marcel. And he was the one who destroyed the Mikealsons’ happiness not to mention the one shred of humanity Klaus had left. Now, nearly 100 years later, and history is about to repeat itself. Only this time, Klaus is the one wielding the white oak stake.
In the next episode of the originals season 4 episode 16 entitled “Farewell to Storyville”, Despite Klaus’ rage, Elijah is determined to protect Rebekah while the three of them are trapped in the City of the Dead cemetery by a witch’s boundary spell. Klaus and Rebekah trade bitter accusations until Elijah steps in to reveal a long-held secret from the family’s past. Meanwhile, Marcel races to free Rebekah, ultimately finding himself forced to make a deal with Genevieve. Finally, Rebekah and Hayley connect over their shared concern for Hayley’s unborn baby.
